Absolutely! The tons of plastic in the oceans are killing fish who eat the shredded pieces. Plastic also helps create dead zones, oxygen depleted areas, where no sea life can live. We need a strong piece of legislation that bans all plastic water bottles and also enforces that ban in every national park in the country. The legislation must mandate frequent and consistent oversight visits by regional park authority with consequences for each park’s administrator who refuses to take responsibility and follow this new legislation. Ban park sale of all plastic beverage bottles as well. Provide special containers for all recyclables, and have signs posted to discourage visitors from using plastic because it is awful for the environment. The parks then become reminders to visitors and advocates for care and respect for the environment.
