We elected a President to represent us for a period of four total years. He still has 6 months left in office and has appointed a nominee to fill a vacancy left in the Supreme Court (which is one of his constitutional duties). Now Congress must fulfill their Constitutional duties and hold confirmation hearings in order to determine if that nominee should be appointed to the court. It's really a simple matter of congress doing their job. Additionally if congress deems Merrick Garland not right for the Supreme Court, they don't have to approve him and they can wait for Obama or the next President to appoint someone else and go through the process again till they get the candidate they can agree on. If I didn't fulfill my duties at work I would be looked down on and eventually fired. Our Congress is shirking its duties and acting like children in the process maybe we should fire a few of them next election.
