10.5% of our population are Veterans. 10% of our population is homeless individuals (2.5%). 2.7% of our population is homeless families. That 574,424 people were homeless on a single night in January 2014 (source: endhomelessness.org report, The State of Homelessness in America 2015). In 2014 (most recent year of available statistics), 46.7 million people (14.8% of our population) lived below the poverty line (source: census.gov 2014 highlights). The average American has $29,000 in student loan debt ($1.2 trillion nationally, cnn.money.com). The current Presidential race has, as one of the biggest platform topics, a major focus on the issue of middle class financial difficulty, the national deficit ($439 billion in 2015) and the debt (18.1 trillion currently). We have neither the resources nor the money to handle these refugees. It is absolutely horrific what is happening. Unfortunately, we do not have our house in order and cannot even house snd feed our own people, let alone take care of additional refugees.
