I strongly believe that a baby is a person, with legal rights, before it is born. However, I do not believe that it happens at conception. This is where the argument lives. When is that magic moment? I don't know, but I do not believe it is at conception. Beyond my beliefs, I think legally defining this at conception will cause more harm than good. It will potentially criminalize the early termination of a pregnancy for many legitimate reasons. Terminating a pregnancy should not be taken lightly, but we should not criminalize young mothers or add unnecessary penalties to our criminal justice system.
