Please oppose this resolution. This rule is not over reaching or killing an already dying industry. It will assist in understanding the true implications to communities in coal country's drinking water. For years coal companies have been required to show they will not be impacting the river or streams downstream before they get their permit, but there is a lack of science and data to determine whether coal mining projects will impact communities' drinking water, fishing opportunities, and places to play currently. This rule fixes that problem.
Also, the rule ensures the mitigation actually takes place so that rivers and streams no longer run orange. We should be promoting southeast Ohio as a place to play and visit, rather than destroying communities' drinking water and fishing opportunities. Many people in this region depend on fish to put food on the table for their families. We need to understand the impacts. No one should have to worry about their drinking water or if the fish they feed their children is contaminated. Please voice your opposition and stand up for Ohioans right to know if their drinking water will be contaminated as you have for those with potential lead problems. Thank you!
