It’s the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, a law that prevents victims of gun violence or their families from taking legal action against gun manufacturers, sellers, importers, or dealers. This bill was bought and paid for by gun lobbyists and NRA money, ensuring that the people irresponsibly selling deadly firearms can’t get in trouble for being reckless. It’s what almost (!!) stopped the parents of the Sandy Hook victims from suing Remington Arms Co. -- they make the AR-15 used in that shooting -- for explicitly advertising it to assault and murder other human beings. If you're thinking, so what, they get to advertise how they want to, then let me add that this is the ONLY industry that gets total legal immunity. It’s not typical, it’s not fair, and it shouldn’t be lawful.
So, long story short: PLCAA sucks. And H.R. 3214 would repeal it. We need to hold the gun industry accountable and call out manufacturers who market deadly weapons in a way that makes us all less safe.
Ask your Representative to support justice for all by co-sponsoring H.R. 3214!
Everyone deserves equal justice under the law, especially those who have been injured or killed by our lack of gun safety laws. Repeal PLCAA and demand justice for all.
