There is no reason a great nation such as ours should celebrate massacres mass slaughters. It is a poor reflection of what actually occurred. It was not a great moment, but a desperate lunge to end the war quickly. Watch any documentary, read any book on the subject and it will tell you that Truman was unsure if he had made the right call. It is, however, a day we should remember. Not in celebration, but as a day to remember the innocent lives lost and to think about the dangers of the power of nuclear weapons.
