The notion of guns on campuses is often seen as a grey area amongst those who are both for and against gun control. Having said that, having an officer on a public school campus with a firearm can be a good choice for the safety of students. Oftentimes, I think back to the time I lived in Atlanta and was reminded by my dad of the suburb of Kennesaw, GA. Kennesaw s one of the few towns which requires the head of the household to own a gun in every house, and this law has had a positive effect on the community. Kennesaw has not had a gun related murder in over 20 years now, which does show that not only do guns not kill people, but they more that not protect people. This leads me to my conclusion that having select people in a public school situation with firearms (such as select administrators, staff, or guards) can prove to potentially save more lives than if an active shooter met no opposition.
