NO, NO, and NO!!!
I was a Federal Employee (GS-2210-Information Technology Management Specialist) in three Federal Government Agencies over a 24 year period. Four of those years was with the Department of the Treasury/Bureau of the Public Debt (BPD). FYI: In 2012 BPD merged with Treasury’s Financial Management Service to become the Bureau of Fiscal Service.
The United States Government has had a Budget Deficit since the U.S. Construction was ratified on June 21, 1788!!!
A Balanced Budget Amendment may sound good on paper; however, IT SIMPLY WILL NOT WORK for the Federal Government. Yes, some may say that all households have to maintain a balanced budget; however, that is comparing apples to oranges! The Federal Government is different. This is why it is called the “Public Sector”!!!
Any time there is a war, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF NATIONAL EMERGENCY (Which is almost ALL the time) that Balanced Budget WILL be in shambles!! Just as an example, when President Bill Clinton left office, the United States had a Budget Surplus. A short time into President George W. Bush’s first term (Soon after 9/11), the United States had a Budget Deficit.
A Balanced Budget Amendment simply WILL NOT WORK for the Federal Government; furthermore, IT WOULD LIKELY CAUSE MORE PROBLEMS, MANY, MANY, MORE PROBLEMS!!!!
