Most people have preexisting conditions. Instance companies should not be able to not cover or charge a person more if the have had cancer, asthma, ADHA, or were adopted. In addition, insurance companies should not prevent people from getting the most up to date treatment for illnesses or have access to drugs that are effective. Insurance companies should not be able to tell a cancer patient that they have to try their formulary first when the specialist recommends another drug, especially when their formulary fails. An insurance company should not deny name brand drugs when a generic doesn’t work. And insurance companies should not dictate how long physical therapy should be (this goes for Medicare as well). Healthcare is a human right, not a profit center for insurance companies. Nor should private equity funds be allowed to own doctor practices and hospitals. Healthcare for profit (outside of paying doctors and healthcare workers) is what makes our system so inefficient.
