The funding of our government agencies should not be a factor in the debate over border security. There can be substantive and meaningful debate on border security, including what works and what doesn't, while the rest of the government continues to serve the people of our nation. End the shutdown, stop hurting government empoloyees and our economy, then make decision about our border without political considerations. In the absense of that, at least pass a bill that provides coverage for essential prescription medications to government employees affected by the shutdown. Such a bill should pass in both chambers and demonstrate to the American people that when people's lives are at stake both sides of the aisle can copperate to get things done.
