Immigrants with criminal histories are already denied access into the country. Really this bill is for defining what a "gang" consists of. According to this bill, that would be "defined as a group of five or more persons that commits felony drug offenses, human trafficking, violent crime, racketeering, obstruction of justice or witness tampering, burglary, and other offenses." One, I would like to know the "other offenses," and two, I'd like to see the process proposed to discern ex-gang members with active gang members. Our current system of background checking is very deep and invasive. We must know a way to handle ex-gang members seeking to escape those environments. Such an act would weaken these gangs in question much more than simply throwing them back.
