As I wrote recently://The only way to “make sense of” the shooting is to enact reasoned legislation regarding guns.//1. No civilian should own assault weapons—their only legitimate use is under military jurisdiction. (The military owns those weapons, not individual soldiers.)//2. Also restrict modifications such as used in the recent Las Vegas incident.//3. Those with mental imbalances tending to violence should not be allowed to purchase either weapons or ammunition.//4. We need a national record of all weapons and ammunition sales, whether in person, via mail order, or online.//5. When such sales take place, there need to be background checks and proof of successful safety training.//6. Concealed carry should not be legal anywhere: it endangers public safety.//Lastly, we need to require buyers to provide proof of a locked storage place for weapons and ammunition.//Note that until relatively recently, the NRA was about gun safety, not sales.
