When living in Charlotte, I witnessed investments transform segregated poor inner city neighborhoods come back like a Phoenix from the ashes of what these neighborhoods once were. Boarded up and vacant businesses and buildings were repurposed by locally owned startup businesses that were only created due to grants. The city and county both invested, and there was Federal money as well. I believe that the businesses were able to pay there grants forward to other potential new businesses. Women and men were encouraged. Not just men. These business would never have been able to attract VCs. Ever. They were impoverished people. They couldn't get good jobs. Their credit scores were abysmal. I support this legislation and ask my Congressional Members to work hard to get this legislation passed. I hope to witness all 3 of you crossing the aisle to listen to your peers and truly negotiate a bill the gives a win for both sides of the legislature.
