I do not support this. The current regulation should stand. As a mental health professional I know how much vetting goes into getting someone on SSI or SS disability. It requires a major mental illness, and evidence that ones's condition is likely to permanently affects ones ability to function. The current regulation is in place to protect the public AND the mentally ill person from the effects of their illness, effects that can lead to acting out with violence against themselves or others. Guns have safety locks, let us do the same by allowing the current regulation to stand. Unfortunately the House has thrown the lock away. As a constituent I urge you, Mr Senator, to put it back in place.
