Absolutely free coronavirus testing should be available to all. But what’s more, massive amounts of tests need to be produced and made available. In addition, these tests need to be not just “diagnostic” tests that are a certain positive, but “screening” tests that minimize the danger of false negatives, which may increase unwitting spread. We should continue to do multiple tests, encourage social distancing and require quarantine for anyone with symptoms. Because of this conundrum (and many other sane and necessary reasons), the federal government must provide support for paid sick leave & food support to those in need, as well as communicate clearly with financial support for small businesses. Additionally, school districts need support in extending their school lunch programs to families at home & low-income families should be contacted about how they are handling care for their children and helped where needed. Those families also need to be provided with technology necessary to enable distance learning. Additionally, (this is just an idea to explore as I clearly don’t have a clear understanding of all the ramifications), we need to consider temporarily converting empty universities into contained COVID-19 treatment centers immediately to counteract our appalling resources to handle this pandemic. Also, in acknowledgement that it spreads through the air without a sick person present & so even more important to create separate facilities. We have 2.8 beds per thousand in the US. Japan (I hear) has 13 beds per 1,000. China increased their isolated hospitals to 48 in days. We need to act now and act with drastic measures.
