The situation in our southern borders does not constitute a national emergency. Illegal immigrants have been crossing that border for decades (and in numbers greater than today) and no one on either side of the political spectrum has ever declared this immigration issue a national emergency. What IS a national emergency is Trump’s attempts to usurp the powers granted by our constitution to the legislative authorities in a blatant violation of our laws. The U.S. Congress, which speaks for the people, has already pronounced itself on how much funding will be allocated to border security and Trump’s role is to simply execute the decisions made by the people. Trump is operating AGAINST the will of the majority of the people. This is not acceptable and it disrupts our democratic and judicial processes. As elected congressional official, you took an oath to protect our constitution. Our congressional representatives have an obligation to comply with their oath of office to protect our constitution and our country’s democratic processes above all else, including politics.
