Absolutely. The idea that any naturally occurring plant can’t be studied for medicinal properties is absurd. Separate from the legalization argument for recreational use, the idea that with all the people who suffer from everything from epilepsy to cancer to insomnia can’t get answers on dosage and efficacy of marijuana in treating diseases and symptoms is ridiculous. Anecdotal evidence is already enough to convince suffering people to risk their freedom and health by breaking the law to use an untested product. Why not allow for medical testing to give them the answers they so desperately seek? Marijuana contains many different molecular components that interact with our systems. Testing and research could isolate these molecules and components so that effective medications may be derived without the unwanted side effects of other compounds in the plant. Strains could also be cultivated or identified to maximize medicinal properties for various ailments.
