First, that the bill is unclear. Why? Because we are already protected from something like this. The groups that were targeted ( there were both liberal & conservative groups, although majority were conservative since there were more applying at that time) were asking to be given tax exemption under a specific provision, that does not include political groups. While I agree that the IRS over reached in how they were looking for evidence that it was a political group, they were right to deny tax exemption to the groups asking it under that provision, whether left or right. These groups, whether the Tea Party, MoveOn.org, etc are essentially mini PACs and they should abide by tax law. If they need to pay taxes then they should, just like I can't claim exemption from taxes for my political opinion, neither should they. This bill makes it sound like "I" will be targeted for taxes based on my political opinion, I haven't seen that happen? If someone knows of a case I may change my mind.
