Although I am a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, I agree that not all people should have access to a firearm. The average Joe knows nothing about the Force Continuum, Verbal Judo, or how to determine when you have a clear shot. Especially that last one. It's not just about no one being in the way, but also being aware of the backstop. A round is fired, it exits the barrel, strikes the target and then exits the target...striking someone or something on the other side of it. Making sure another person, a vehicle, an explosive/combustible element or a building full of people is not in the projectiles exit path is as vital as making sure those things are not between you and the intended target. Joe Schmoe doesn't always have the training or knowledge to consider that. If his friend Joe Shmuckatelli fails the background check, State and Local LEO's need to have some knowledge if that individual is known to be volatile.
