“Fossil fuel extraction” from the Arctic should NOT be banned. There are plenty of environmental regulations and existing laws to deal with specific environmental problems that Arctic drilling creates. This bill is another utopian dream that throws out the baby with the bathwater. The tools to protect the Arctic already exist along with the means of using them. Carbon emissions would not be affected by the bill since fossil fuels are commodities that are extracted all over the planet and can be transported anywhere. It is dishonest to suggest that a ban on Arctic oil would be constructive in any sense. I am cheering for the EPA and the courts on this one!
