To me this isn’t a yes or no question really. Yes, I think funding needs to increased for outreach especially to audiences with few resources to know the ins and outs of the process of enrollment. Trump’s admin has dramatically cut funds to public outreach and assistance to navigate the system. He promised to take measures to “kill” the ACA and he’s done a fairly good job at taking measures to do that. Between zero advertising and shutting the website down overnight during the height of the enrollment period, not surprisingly enrollment is down with the deadline tonight. On the other hand, funds should not be approved to go to fraudulent sources with proven records of misuse and abuse of funds earmarked for outreach and support . Clearly, a critical a,punt of funds approved needs to be designated for the management of tighter controls. Of course it’s unwieldy and prone to abuse....the current whole private health insurance system is. I don’t think one can just point a finger at the ACA as for its unwieldy parts with vulnerability for abuse. Spend $$ on tightening up and making accountable the entire industry as well as putting more dollars back to outreach to targeted underserved populations.
