The fact that alcohol is legal and not marijuana makes no sense. As a professional, I could be a closet alcoholic and still get my dream job but have to go through a ridiculous process to detox marijuana from my body for an upcoming drug test. In regards to health, the negative effects of daily marijuana use are far less than the damage alcohol does to ones physical body. Personally I have found that certain strains actually result in me taking less than my prescribed medications for adhd and anxiety. Excessive alcohol consumption can result in a multitude of problems including death, though I can smoke pot all day long and never feel severely impaired, and it certainly won’t kill me.
Where there’s a will there is a way. Although our current laws are still against weed, they are a weak deterrent, we all know how commonly it is used, not just by stoners and the unemployed but also by responsible competent people, professionals etc. At this point why keep it illegal? To put more people in jail, to make more money for the system, to give cops more bs to bust on? The economic benefits of legalization I’m sure would far outweigh negatives and would certainly help to revitalize the economy after the strain caused by the pandemic.
