These jobs are not meant to be something that one has for a while then moves on. Many minimum wage workers are there for years, because they are unable to get anything else. It doesn't come down to work ethic, it comes down to socioeconomic status. Those born in poorer neighborhoods are most likely going to stay in that lower socioeconomic class as they move forward in life. It's hard to find a higher paying job that doesn't require previous experience in the field and at the very least two years of college or more. Thousands of people simply cannot meet those requirements, yet they work just as hard if not harder than others. They should be able to live off the wages for the jobs that are available to them, and that's that.
