I strongly support Universal Healthcare in some form or another. We desperately need to catch up to the rest of the developed world when it comes to healthcare. First and foremost, healthcare directly corresponds to Life (as in “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”). That makes healthcare a right, not a privilege. As such, nobody should ever be denied treatment, including preventative care, regardless of ability to pay. I would MUCH rather my taxes be spent ensuring that a child who needs it receives healthcare than paying for a useless wall that will do nothing to stop illegal immigration.
We need to look at all the other countries in the world with Universal Healthcare and see what they are doing. Find out what DOES work, why, and copy it. Find out what does NOT work and why it doesn’t work, and what they have already done to try to fix it so we don’t copy mistakes that have already been made. Use this knowledge to build the best functioning, most equitable healthcare system in the world. I know we can, we just have to try!
