The *US* caused the 1979 hostage crisis in 1953 with the well-documented Operation Ajax when we staged a coup against the *democratically elected* *secular* Iranian Prime Minister Muhammad Mossadegh with MI6 and installed the brutal Shah. Indeed, all our intelligence in the region was laid bare because our Iranian diplomatic team (read: the CIA) evidently felt the Iranians were too unintelligent to be able to piece together strip-shredded documents when the Shah fell. But they did, and *all* our double-dealings in the area were on display because we underestimated a non-Anglo country. So if Iran harbours any ill will towards the USA, it's because the USA earned it - which is not to say we should stand idly by and allow Iran to attack us, but if we *really* want to end global terrorism, we need to stop being the leading perpetrator of it (and if you don't think we are, try asking the ~200,000 Iraqis who've died as the result of America's "War on Terror" that - whoopsie! - didn't find *any* connection of Iraq to 9/11, nor any WMDs).
