If Congress would stop stealing from the Social Security Accounts there would be no problem not. President Reagan was the first to 'borrow' from this account as have other presidents. President Reagan said that "these monies are not gifts from the government, these monies are a direct result of taxpayers paying into this program for their future retirement" This is NOT a free loan for our government. Also, if you made everyone pay their 'fair share' into this program, there would also not be a shortage. If everyone was made to pay SS tax on ALL of their income, it would not be short of funds. If the laws were changed so that, reflecting how much longer we are living, full retirement with Social Security were years later, then that would help as well. The main problem is that Congress sees a large amount of monies in the Social Security Fund and can't resist the temptation to 'borrow' from this account and doesn't seem to see the imperative to pay back the monies. We as people in the US already pay taxes, this Social Security fund is for our retirement.....PLEASE stop stealing from it!
