I was born in 1980, which means I've never lived in a United States without an EPA. I have traveled to countries with few or no environmental regulations, and it has been shocking. I've seen litter piled up in drifts along buildings and roadways, major rivers dead with chemicals and waste (and smelling awful), and otherwise beautiful sandy beaches covered in sludge and waste. This is what a world without environmental regulation looks like, among other horrors. Air and water are our SHARED resources. Life literally depends on them. We must do everything possible to strengthen environmental protections for the benefit of our children and their children's children. Business CAN thrive within environmental constraints, there is no doubt. On the other hand, in the words of David Brower, "What good is business on a dead planet?"
