I don’t believe the right to own a gun should be suppressed, however this is a bad idea. Not because an 18 year old is incapable of being responsible enough. My problem is the criminal justice system and the sealing/expunging juvenile records. There is a risk that a kid, with a predisposition for criminal behavior, could legally get his hands on a firearm. This could play right into the argument that guns are the problem, as you would have almost a generation of bad apples legally flooding the streets with weapons used in crimes. Unless this comes with a stipulation that criminal records starting at the age of 15 remain active, I would vote against it, lest we want to provide a narrative that gives the opposition’s argument teeth.
