We need to fix our sex offender laws first. There are too many insane acts that can land you on the sex offender registry (public urination -- it's a nuisance, but not one that deserves ruining a person's life; consensual sex between teenagers; etc) and the punishment is awfully severe for a group of offenders that are generally not repeat offenders. Amend the laws so that first time offenders are given a fine and jail time proportional to their crime as well as probation and some sort of sex offender class following incarceration. Treat them like human beings and give them a chance to learn why they were outside of the law and what the consequences are of a repeat offense. Save the sex offender registry for repeat offenders and the extreme edge cases-- not for people who made a mistake, have paid their fines and served their time, and reintegrated back into society with no repeat offenses.
