No, do not take this away. And for those who say we should all pay attention and be responsible for our own, I offer my personal experience. I worked for a small business. We all worked our tails off, and bought a similar business to grow faster, fraudulent books, and all our retirement money gone. I moved to a Fortune 500, restarted a 401k. 7 years in they spin us off to new owners who bankrupted the business through incompetent management. But in the way down, the own stole all the employees 401k money. Lawyers have nice pay, and 2,000 people lost their jobs and retirement. I joined a F500 telecom company. Execs committed fraud, the stock tanked to 10% of what it was, taking out all our options, which was about 40% of our projected pay. Market crash in 2008 with bank fraud, AIG, and auto and bank company bailouts (Republican socialism) which wiped out half our retirement funds.
I did the responsible thing. Worked hard. Worked for large, well respected companies, and still ended up screwed. NO! I don’t want an end to financial oversight and regulations. And I would add we need the equivalent of FDIC insurance to protect us when this type of fraud and mismanagement occurs.
And the icing on the cake. I got multiple sclerosis and have been dealing with rejection for life insurance, unaffordable health insurance until the ACA was passed, and have lately been watching Trump, McConnell and until 2018, Ryan, systematically destabilize my healthcare.
