16-year-olds are WAY too young to use assault weapons. They're not called "protection weapons," they're massively dangerous and in the case of an emergency, using one would be warranted should a parent or guardian own one (which is a discussion of its own). But for a 16-year-old to POSSESS an ASSAULT rifle? That is ridiculous, pointless, and dangerous. The ones "protecting themselves" (children that young--and yes, children) would likely become the people from whom we need to protect ourselves.
