This bill is necessary. There’s a backlog of permit applications from American small-scale LNG exporters. Though natural gas obviously isn’t long-term sustainable, natural gas is cleaner and better for the environment than coal, which is what LNG would be replacing in many places like China and Africa, making it a smarter short-term alternative to dirtier coal, encouraging the cleaning of our air and environment, 2nd Russia would be the biggest loser of this bill. Russia’s main export, primarily to Europe, is natural gas, which they tend to use as a political weapon. Increasing US exports of LNG significantly reduces Russia’s edge, clout, and standing in the world, while strengthening the US. Third, this would continue to expand and lift the economy here at home which could hardly be a bad thing. Any company that majorly cuts corners in environmental review will suffer at the hands of the court of public opinion upon discovery of an irresponsible act, harming the environment. All the benefits of this bill, both strategically and economically, outweighs the negatives and potential risks.
