Insurance is to protect future events. Such as car accidents, fires, even death. Insurance companies provide you a promise, which they hope never happens, in case something avoidable happens. To make insurance companies pay for events having already occurred is ludicrous. Can I buy fire insurance after my house burns down? I drive and crash and I go get a new car with a new policy? Health is NOT different. The companies are not there to take care of you. It’s to cover you if through not fault of your own, you get harmed. What you are all talking about is you want someone else to pay for your reckless behavior, you want others to pay for your health, or sickness. So how does that insurance company make money? They do it the opposite of good business. They charge customers that don’t but the product to pay more than the ones that use it? What they need to do, is charge by behavior. Fat people pay more, by the pounds over ideal weight. Smokers pay double, there’s a 2x chance of getting sick. People who eat fast food, processed food, overeat, all pay more. People having children pay more. Or not be covered by insurance at all. Those are all actions you chose to do, not accidents.
