My sister works for the government at an army base. She wasn’t elected, as one person said government employees are, and she doesn’t get bonuses, as someone else said. She’s a civilian employee of the government at the base. I think there are a lot of misconceptions about working for the government. Some of the things people say are true—it is seemingly hard to get fired. But they also get furloughed without pay whenever there are budget issues. For the people who slack off, as in any job, there are people like my sister who have to make up for the work that hasn’t been done, so yes, I think if someone were to find a way to save money, they should get a bonus. Most of the employees don’t seem to be looking. It’s not just fun and games working for the government.
