What happened to high school? As a college professor, I agree that here is a breakdown that happens along the way. I don't place the blame on their high school teachers, the administrators, the students, or their parents. Personally, I think the blame is on all of the above and politicians who have tried to "fix" education over the past forty years only to see the outcomes go down. I do not think the answer is shipping them to college or to making them think they are getting a college level education from high school teachers. High school teachers are broad generalists without the depth of knowledge that a university professor has. We don't sacrifice so much of our life to education and research for nothing (trust me, it's not for the pay). Keep high school and college separate. They play very different developmental and educational functions within our society.
