I do not support this legislation and I am completely opposed to it. A wall is not the proper solution at all and has never proven to be a valuable solution in any country throughout history. For example the Berlin wall that separated East and West Germany caused a dangerous divide in the country and neither side was saved from the other’s ideology. The demolishment of this Wall is celebrated, yet we want to build another. I do not support this legislation because I believe that the money could fund more important projects that Americans actually need. The money should go towards the immigration policy and the proper processing of immigrants. The conditions represent risks to the health and safety. Children are taken from their families, there is a lack of food, water, and proper shelter, overcrowding, and people are dying. In addition, the immigration process is very long and difficult and many applicants are denied. According to the American Immigration Council, “The reunification of families, admitting immigrants with skills that are valuable to the U.S. economy, protecting refugees, and promoting diversity” are the principles that the Immigration laws of the U.S. are built upon. But the conditions in which immigrants are held and the way that they are treated contradict this statement. The $14 billion dollars seized from the drug cartel needs to fund better conditions of the border containment center and security projects at the southern border. Using criminally forfeited assets from El Chapo and other Mexican cartel members and drug dealers to fund the wall will further drive apart the U.S. and Mexico. Mexico is one of the United States’ greatest allies and best trade partners. Funding a wall will only create more war and problems for everyone.
