It won't happen, but it is the perfect system. Basic healthcare as a single payer with the ability to purchase riders for improved coverage. It is more efficient, but it will be too painful for us to get there. Other nations have this system, but were not burdened by the practice we have here instituted during WWII to get around the pay freeze. This is not Canada, so just hush about Commies and Liberals, people. We are talking about benefits that allow access to providers, not the provider system. But I'm sure they wouldn't mind having the ability to get paid for services rendered. There is a huge list of countries that have this system and they look at us crosseyed when we say healthcare is not a right in this country. Why the heck not? It's my understanding that we cannot unring our bell to get there, but it would be great to have a system like the Netherlands, for example. I guess we're not the greatest nation in the world.
