If the ability to help children and any of the more vulnerable members of our society isn't built into a disaster plan, then we've done something very wrong and it needs to be rectified immediately. I am more than a little appalled that the situation is such that it requires its own bill. At the very least, much of the medical equipment and drugs that can be used on adults isn't made to work on or in a child's body, and this needs to be prepared for. Emotional trauma is different in children than in adults, families can become separated, parents might be killed or hurt beyond their ability to help their children. I'm sure there's more that in my ignorance I wouldn't think to prepare for, but I do feel that these possibilities can and should be addressed in every disaster plan.
