Ideological politics must not be the foundation of our discourse about the people, who are individuals with far more complex and honest ways of representing who they are. We have allowed politics to eclipse our humanity, and the effect has been the ruin of our democracy to a dysfunctional and bipolar system. The consequence is that we are stratified and grow to resent our neighbors and allow our communities to fail. For the imperative of our democracy, we can no longer trust partisan panels to dictate the fates of the people. A fair, nonpartisan commission should be the end goal, driven by a sense of duty to the Constitution and the People who are subject beneath it.
