They are not the military. They are trained as law enforcers, not judge, jury and executioner. If the police cannot figure out how to de-escalate a situation that does not show signs of fatal threat without using deadly force, they should be out of a job. It does not make it more convenient for them to have access to military grade defense items; just more dangerous because it is NOT in their job description to be trained to use them. They are supposed to relate to, protect, serve and love the communities they work in and for, not create a state of constant and disregulated vigilance and intimidation. Civilians aren't supposed to take things into their own hands, and when they can't, they call the cops; the same should apply to the cops...if you need the military, call them. But you aren't the military.
