Yes. If the people of Puerto Rico want statehood, they should get statehood in my opinion. They are not currently represented in Congress. This sounds familiar to another colony that belonged to a large foreign power... oh wait. That was the US. We were the colony (or, colonies). It is time to at least give Puerto Ricans the representation they deserve. They are American citizens with American passports. It is high time we take care of our own and treat them as they are: Americans. Even if they do not want statehood, they are still American citizens, and should be granted the same rights as any other American citizen: the rights to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, the right to representation in Congress (DC is a special case as the nation's capital and a different argument for another day), and any other right that is currently being denied to them.
