Unions are crucial to uphold worker rights. Many states are right-to-work states which means your employer can terminate your position at his whim. He won't need a reason and there would be nothing you can do about it... WITHOUT A UNION to battle on your behalf. A union can help prevent that from happening. If you don't want join a union, then look for a job that does not boast a union. Those who choose to forego union dues should absolutely not be allowed to use union benefits in any way at all. Unions should keep track of those who refuse to pay dues. If these people who refuse to pay dues are wrongly terminated from their position, then they will have learned a crucial lesson and perhaps with their next job they'll gladly pay their union dues. Unions often offer more than just advocating on a worker's behalf, and the more workers who pay dues, the more benefits a union can offer. Look to see what all a union's benefits are before refusing to pay dues. You might be pleasantly surprised.
