The EPA has many vital functions to protect the health of people and the environment. The EPA doesn't only enforce laws, but they are responsible for extensive research concerning the interactions between people and the environment. States are not equipped to fill the role of the EPA if it was abolished, and state governance would ultimately lead to weaker laws in some areas and stronger laws in others. This discordance in regulation could result in higher levels of pollution in one area that negatively impacts others, but not only in the region where the pollution is produced.
