The origin of criminalization Marijuana originated with racial intents. The war on drugs, which had Marijuana at the core, was a dog-whistle to target minority communities. That targeting is still occurring, and is resulting the Mass Incarceration era we are all living in. Cannabis, marijuana, it is showing to be less harmful than alcohol. Right now, it is being treated the same as Heroin. We have seen medical cannabis being effective treatments for children with seizures, and veterans with PTSD. Those veterans are glad to have that drug as a "gateway drug," a gateway to a better quality of life. Granted, we shouldn't let young teenagers use recreational marijuana so that they can have the best focus on education- but there is no real harm if they use marijuana. It is only when one, before their brains are fully developed, use marijuana the same amount of an average smoker. This bill is a start in recognizing that marijuana is not as dangerous as some say it is, and I hope it does become federally legal- with regulations for high schools, maybe college students. We shouldn't be living with laws that were racially-motivated and gained support through fear-mongering, considering what the war on drugs has done to minority communities to this day.
