I am Jewish and I support Israel. But I do not support some of Israel's conduct toward the Palestinians and Palestinian lands. As an American, and as a Jew, I support the right of any American to protest. It is inappropriate for Congress to condemn Americans for exercising their right to protest. This is precisely the kind of protest that helped end apartheid in South Africa. I further do not believe this movement reduces the opportunity for a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue. On the contrary, it is the Trump administration's total abandonment of a neutral position in the dispute that renders resolution unlikely. There will be no peaceful resolution until Israel, backed by the United States, stops unilaterally annexing Palestinian territory. Neither side in this dispute is blameless and the US should return to a neutral position from which it has some chance of negotiating peace.
