When the Sherman Antitrust Act was repealed the drug companies (and banks and manufacturing companies) started gobbling each other up. Whereas we once had many competitive smaller companies, we now have a few mega companies who can do whatever they want because there is no competition. Yes, when patents expire others can make the Med, but they try to make almost as much as the brand names now. Epipen is an example. We used to give patients a vial of epinephrine and a syringe and it cost less than $5 retail. Then they put it in a cheap plastic delivery device and elevated the price to about $700 once they had a monopoly. With no competition and no support for small businesses capitalism does not work. Soon all the retail stores will be gone and Amazon will be able to charge whatever they want. We will have no alternatives. It is time to bring real capitalism back. Stop monopolies.
