Germany, Norway, Sweden, and many other European countries already do this and they have WAY higher standards of living than us. I've got a degree and most entry-levels jobs that demand a Bachelors start pay at $10/hour. With loans that demand $550/month and a net income roughly around $1,200 (at $10/ hour) that takes out about 42% of my monthly income. That isn't a living wage people! Sure there are some government programs that can help alleviate this but all those do is ether extend your loans out longer or go to people working very specific fields. My family has had to step in for years to help me pay back my loans and I've had to go into forbearance two times. I've been working food service jobs since I graduated because they pay better. I feel my education was a scam and have seen no reason to encourage anyone to do it. In fact, I usually advise against it to anyone who is considering going to college for this exact reason. I'm a classic example of over-educated and under-employed.
