Environmental health is one of those goods that cannot be protected by free markets. There must be a government role. If anything, the EPA should be strengthened rather than vilified, such that it can have the capacity it needs to protect us AND to work directly with industry to make reasonable decisions that benefit everyone. Vilifying or gutting the EPA is exactly the wrong thing to do and amounts to nothing more than mindless political grandstanding. Can we find ways to work toward multiples goals together -- ensuring a healthy environment and the livelihoods of people and their energy sources?
