We need to balance the free market with our knowledge of the market externalities. The great Republican idea of cap and trade fixed acid rain and the hole in the ozone layer by regulating the effects of chlorofluorocarbons in a way that leveraged the market. We should do the same for greenhouse emissions, or else there will be no market incentive to solve the global problem. Needless to say, we should definitely not be subsidizing the coal and oil industries. The solar industry already surpassed the coal industry in job generation. We should continue providing workers in the oil and coal industries with training opportunities and support to transition to modern industries that are safer for their health and better for the economy and environment.
